Seed paper (or plantable paper as it is sometimes known) is a biodegradable eco-paper that is made with post-consumer materials and embedded with seeds. It is made from recycled materials, which means that no trees were harmed in the process. The seed that the paper is embedded with the seeds of British wildflowers, meaning they will sprout into beautiful, native flowers to help the bees, make your garden or pot look beautiful and bring some summer into your life!

Is planting seed paper easy?

Absolutely! It couldn’t be easier to plant your seed card. You can pop it outside or plant your seed paper in a pot indoors instead.

Here is a how to guide to planting your seed paper:

Our seed paper thank you cards are all very easy to plant. The main thing is to keep the paper wet – let it dry out and success is severely reduced!

  1.    Get yourself a sowing tray or pot and fill with compost

  2.    Place the seed paper card on top – there is no need to cover it with more compost

  3.    Water well

  4.    Place the pot with your seed paper somewhere warm and light to germinate

  5.    Keep the paper moist at all times – this is very important!

  6.     Once the seedlings are well established you can then transfer the whole lot to a bigger pot and grow on.  Or you can individually remove each seedling and grow on in lots of small pots.

  7.     When big enough – place in the garden and enjoy the flowers!

Can I make my own seed paper?

Yes! Making your own seed paper is so easy and am amazing way to reuse and recycle any unwanted paper (receipts, junk mail, newspapers, anything!). If you have kids, making your own seed paper is an awesome way to spend a rainy day!

What you will need:

You will need:

  • Recycled paper 8-10 pieces

  • Water

  • Seeds

  • Dried flowers

  • Hand blender

  • Large shallow container

  • Dish cloth

Method:

1. Tear your paper into small pieces and soak in very warm water for around 10-15 minutes.

2. Then blend the water and paper mixture until you reach a pulpy consistency.

3. Add your seeds and mix them in by hand.

4. Strain excess water from the mixture through a sieve. Press down using s spoon to get rid of as much water as possible.

5. Lay out a piece of terry cloth, microfiber towel, or flannel on a flat surface. Dump the pulp onto the fabric and use a spoon or spatula to spread the pulp over the fabric. Use a sponge or cloth to flatten the mixture and soak up more water. After the pulp has dried on one side, turn it over and allow the other side to dry completely. Once both sides are dry, your seed paper is ready for use!

Voila! That is how to make seed paper! What an amazing way to reuse your rubbish.
